I don’t feel strongly about trans rights. In fact, I find the whole gender-non-binary thing pretty bizarre.
I’m a fierce anti-theist. I think all monotheistic religions are silly — and, honestly, more trouble than they’re worth.
There are cultural practices across the world that make no sense to me, and some that make me outright uncomfortable.

But despite all that, I believe in something deeper:
The inalienable right of every human being to live freely.

You don’t need my approval to exist peacefully.
You don’t need me to understand every detail of your identity, your beliefs, or your choices.
You simply deserve the space to live your life without fear, just as I want the same for myself.

I know this much for certain:
If either of my children, or any of my loved ones, chose to change their gender… or embrace a religion I don’t believe in… I would still love them just as much.
My love isn’t conditional on familiarity.
It isn’t based on shared opinions, lifestyle choices, or worldviews.
It’s rooted in something bigger: humanity.

I am ignorant on many fronts.
I’m a little set in my ways.
Sometimes I’m even stupid about things I don’t fully understand.
But I am human — stumbling through life like everyone else — and I know we’re all just trying to find our own path.

I don’t have to get your journey.
I just have to recognize your right to walk it.

And as long as you respect my right to live by my own values — so long as neither of us is harming others — I will happily respect yours.

That, to me, is what freedom is about.

I want to live in a world where people are free — even when I don’t understand how they exercise that freedom.

Especially then.
